Objectives
The overall objective of the project is to foster the development of Quantum sensors (QS) for metrology based on single‑atom‑like device technology.
Quantum sensors (QS) could potentially revolutionise any area where accurate sensors are required and the development of metrology for these is one of the four aims of the EU’s Quantum Flagship agenda. The scale-up and commercialisation of QS requires independent and rigorous testing for the new devices and systems. This project aims to develop a new class of single-atom-like QS devices, together with techniques for their characterisation. It will define optimal methods to assess reproducibility in the production and characterisation of QS systems. These new devices promise to provide nanoscale high-sensitivity measurements of properties such as electro‑magnetic fields, temperature and stress, allowing European NMIs to develop the infrastructure and reliable standards for the emerging QS technology sector.
